Library
Do I have to reorganise my folders?+
No. AssetLoot searches the structure you already have. There is no naming convention to adopt and no migration step.
What exactly does it index?+
The preview images that come with your models — .jpg, .png and supported .pdf preview sheets — and your texture files. It does not analyse the actual 3D geometry inside .max or .fbx files.
How large a library can it handle?+
AssetLoot can search folders across local drives, external storage and mapped network locations. Indexing time and performance depend on the size of the selected library, storage speed and workstation hardware.
Can it search a studio server?+
AssetLoot can search folders stored on mapped network drives where those locations are accessible from the user's workstation.
Behaviour
Does it move or rename anything?+
No. AssetLoot does not move, rename or reorganize the source library.
Where does the processing happen?+
Local-first on your workstation. Asset indexing and search are performed locally. An internet connection may still be required for installation, licensing or software updates.
Can I check a result before using it?+
Yes. Every result is shown as a preview, so you can review it before opening or merging it.
Can I search with an image instead of text?+
Yes. You can search with a written description, with a reference image, or with both.
Setup
What do I need to run it?+
AssetLoot is a Windows plugin for 3ds Max.
Which versions of 3ds Max are supported?+
Supported 3ds Max versions will be listed before release.
Is macOS supported?+
No. AssetLoot runs on Windows. Blender, SketchUp and a standalone application are planned directions, not promised releases.
